HARTLEPOOL United are planning a video appeal against Mark Tinkler's dismissal on Saturday, writes Nick Loughlin.

Both Tinkler and visiting substitute Aaron Wilbraham were dismissed in the closing stages as they lined-up to face a throw in.

Shotley Bridge referee Colin Webster decreed the pair had to go for violent conduct, but both Pool boss Martin Scott and counterpart Danny Wilson hope their players can escape a three-game ban.

Tinkler is the third Pool player to be dismissed in a week, after Micky Nelson at Nottingham Forest and Ben Clark at Scunthorpe.

Pool have been unable to appeal against Clark's card after Scunthorpe failed to video the game on Tuesday, but, armed with a copy of Saturday's 2-1 win, Scott believes there is a case for his midfielder to be cleared.

"The sendings-off were debatable,'' said Scott. "It was a game with plenty of tackles and sliding tackles from two committed sides.

"You have to listen to your players at times like that. It was two seasoned pros who were grappling, nothing else. Wilbraham is trying to get in front of Tinkler, Tinkler's trying to get in front of him.

"No punches were thrown, no headbutts or anything like that. Handbags and grappling doesn't deserve a red card or a three game ban.

"This game has been taped, so we will look at it. I've spoken to Danny Wilson and if we feel it's right we will both appeal because I don't think it should have been a red card.

"It was a good win for us and it's very disappointing to have a player sent-off. That's three in three games and we are not a dirty side. We are committed and fighting for as many points as possible, but that sending-off and the one on Tuesday wasn't warranted.

"It's tough for us because it means we are missing key players.''

Pool will face Dagenham and Redbridge in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday, November 5.

The Conference side, managed by John Still, beat Forest Green Rovers on Saturday in the last qualifying round. They are currently tenth in the Conference with 19 points from 14 games.
