A MAN and a woman held by detectives investigating the murder of a man on Teesside, have been released on police bail.

A 21-year-old man had been held by Cleveland Police investigating the death of 49-year-old David Cutts, since the beginning of the week, and a 42-year-old woman was only arrested on Thursday.

Mr Cutts who lived in the Marton Manor area of Middlesbrough, was brain dead when he was admitted to the town's James Cook Hospital early on Sunday, following an incident at Benson's Bar on Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough.

Mr Cutts fell or was pushed down a flight of stairs at the two storey club, but police say he had "significant injuries" not consistent with a fall.

Acting Detective Inspector Paul Richardson, investigating the murder, has described the public response to police appeal for help as "atrocious."

He said today: "It is imperative that everyone who was there makes contact with the police."

The murder incident room is (01642 301333).
