TWO North-East brothers hoping to make it big in the music industry were given a huge boost on television's X Factor on Saturday night.

Andy and Carl Pemberton, who performed as singing duo Journey South, were given glowing comments by the three judges after their rendition of Elton John's Something About the Way You Look Tonight.

The brothers, from Coulby Newham, near Middlesbrough, were ecstatic when told they had received enough votes from the public to make it through to next week's round.

And if the comments of judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh were anything to go by, the brothers are likely to remain hot contenders in the competition for weeks to come.

Sharon said: "You are both very genuine and natural."

Louis said he had liked them from the first time he saw them in audition and still believed they had "a great career in front of them".

He said their voices, image and stage presence was exactly what was required to make them successful.

Simon, who is coaching the pair, said: "You have the whole package."

The brothers will go on to perform live again in next Saturday's competition, when the remaining 11 acts will battle it out for the public's vote.

Singer-songwriters Andy and Carl have spent the past ten years looking for their big break.

The former Acklam Grange School pupils gave up their jobs and moved to London and even lived in a caravan for a while in a determined effort to seek out their big break.

On Saturday, family and friends joined their parents, Genda and Trevor, on the journey south to watch the brothers.
