A WOMAN who has survived breast cancer twice is calling on people to join her when she makes a splash for charity.

Sharyn Clarkson will be taking a Pink Dip in the sea at Redcar, east Cleveland, later this month in an effort to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

The married mother-of-two has already recruited 40 volunteers to dress up and take the plunge in pink on the afternoon of Saturday, October 29, but is hoping to attract many more.

The pink posse will work their way down to the shore, opposite the Lifeboat Station, and run into the sea, at 2pm, as part of the All Women Together fundraising campaign.

Mrs Clarkson, 52, a retired psychiatric nurse, said: "Redcar's Boxing Day Dip is famous throughout the North-East.

"As breast cancer affects so many local women and their families, I am hoping to make our Pink Dip an annual event to support Cancer Research UK.

"We want everyone to have fun and dress up. Some of the other fundraisers I have spoken to are dressing as a pink witch, a stick of candyfloss and a pink bunny girl."

Mrs Clarkson has been treated for breast cancer twice. She was first diagnosed in 1994, aged 41, when her children were aged 13 and seven.

She underwent a lumpectomy, before starting courses in chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

But two years ago, the cancer returned and that time she opted for a double mastectomy.

Mrs Clarkson, of Winchester Road, Redcar, set up the Living With Breast Cancer Support Group to offer hope and comfort to other women diagnosed with the disease.

Anyone wishing to join the Pink Dip at Redcar, or seeking more information, is asked to call Mrs Clarkson on (01642) 487230 or visit the Cancer Research shop, in Redcar.

Dippers are asked to register in advance.
