Archerfield Links, who is improving at a rate of knots, is fancied to complete the three-timer in the NGK Spark Plugs Nursery over a mile at Newmarket this afternoon.

Neville Callaghan's juvenile, who showed promise on his debut, turned in an improved effort in decent style when getting up under Frankie Dettori to win a Yarmouth maiden.

But it was his latest effort, in a keenly-contested Salisbury nursery last weekend when accounting for a multitude of previous winners, that marked him down as one with a big chance in a similarly tough race.

He has a penalty to carry but his style of racing suggests there may well be more to come and Steven Drowne, who rode at Salisbury, again takes the ride.

He is taken to beat the progressive Commentary, the mount of Kieren Fallon. Fallon looks to have decent claims aboard Jim Goldie's Orientor, who may appreciate the return to handicap company in the Strutt & Parker Handicap over the minimum distance.

Although his wins-to-runs ratio is an ordinary one and he needs things to fall right, Fallon has a good record on him and with several in the field that can make the running, he should get the race run to suit.

Frankie Dettori and Saeed bin Suroor, who notched a double on sand at Lingfield yesterday, can repeat the feat with Scandal Keeper in the opening six-furlong maiden and with Bold Crusader in the seven-furlong maiden.

The former, a son of Danzig, shaped well on his debut at the July course here in August and, although not seen since, is open to improvement and looks the one to be on in an ordinary event.

Bold Crusader also ran a promising first race at Yarmouth earlier in that month and left the strong impression that the step up to seven furlongs would be in his favour. He is also open to plenty of progress.

Ebtikaar, who hasn't had that much racing and may also be capable of better, gets the vote in a very tricky looking National Stud Handicap over a mile and a half.

John Dunlop's consistent middle-distance performer ran well when a close third to Soulacroix over this course and distance last time and is weighted to finish much closer on today's terms.

At Southwell's banded meeting Mystery Pips makes plenty of appeal in the opening Happy Birthday Helen From thesoccersite.co.uk Banded Stakes over the minimum distance.

Nigel Tinkler's sprinter, a course and distance winner this year, showed the right attitude to win at Catterick last time and is fancied to confirm placings with runner-up Lady Pekan and fourth-placed Amanda's Lad on these terms.

Richard Whitaker's Desertina, a winner at Southwell on Tuesday, is fancied to follow-up under a penalty in the Encore Public Relations Tri-Banded Stakes over the same six furlong trip.

The best bet at Ludlow could be the progressive Miss Shakira, who had two subsequent winners in arrears when successful at Perth last time, in the Shropshire Handicap Hurdle over three miles.
