PARISH councillors have expressed their anger at the possibility of a key part of law enforcement in their village being based at Durham Tees Valley Airport.

Middleton St George parish council heard at its meeting on Monday that local police community support officer Jon Angus could be given an office at the nearby airport.

But the idea has angered council members - particularly Brian Jones, who said he would strongly oppose such a move.

Councillor Jones said: "They'd be taking away a community support officer, who should be on the streets of Middleton St George.

"They have their own security at the airport and they charge people to leave their cars there.

"Why should they take our community support officer away from us?"

He said the council had offered the police the use of the community centre as a possible base on more than one occasion.

PC Boyd Rowe said there had been a spate of thefts from the airport car park recently, but the possibility of Mr Angus moving there was only "under review".
