Bishop Auckland manager Brian Honour will almost certainly be in charge of his last game when they go to Woodley Sports today.

Honour, who has been in charge of Bishops for three years, says that the Cup exit at the hands of Skelmersdale in midweek has prompted him to resign and he will end his time with the club today.

"The last three years have been a roller coaster," he said.

"It's been a tough job in the circumstances we've had to deal with in that time.

"I feel that a different voice will do the team good.

"I have tried everything in my power for the good of the club, but I think that the time is right for a change. It's impossible to replace 15 players, so it's best that I move on.

"At times I've tried to strengthen the squad but I've lost out to Northern League clubs for various reasons.

"Results haven't been good enough, especially the draw and then the defeat against Skelmersdale.

"The draw last Saturday hurt me a lot because it's a game we should have won considering all the chances we had.

"I feel that I've given my best shot. I know people are linking me with the Gateshead job, but my decision has got nothing to do with that, it is our recent results.

"I've had great backing from the club and I have tremendous affection for it, but the buck stops with me."

Honour, who took over from Alan Shoulder, guided Bishops to promotion two seasons ago and also to the Durham Challenge Cup final.

Vice-chairman Tony Duffy said: "Brian has worked very hard. He has been very honest with us throughout his time with us, and he's managed very well on a small budget.

"He feels that the time is right for him to go and we can understand that."

Unless Honour has an unlikely and dramatic change of heart - and the Bishops' committee agree - then Bishops will turn to their senior players to run the team next week while they invite applications.

Defender Chris Mason returns today but midfielder Stephen Bell is suspended.

In the Premier Division, Whitby go to Radcliffe Borough and are missing midfielder Phil Brumwell and striker Graham Robinson.

Gateshead will have former manager Colin Richardson in temporary charge again at North Ferriby.
