A FARM in the region will open to visitors tomorrow to celebrate British Food Fortnight.

Kath and Maurice Toward are inviting people to their Herdship Farm, near Harwood-in-Teesdale, in County Durham,

British Food Fortnight, which runs until October 9, aims to promote and preserve food and drink as part of the country's heritage.

It also aims to provide opportunities for people, especially children, to learn about the history of food and drink.

Herdship Farm has beef cattle and sheep and the 574- acre farm is classified as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Two thirds of the farm is part of Defra's Environmentally Sensitive Areas Scheme and there are also areas within English Nature's Wildlife Enhancement Schemes.

Mrs Toward said: "We were keen to support British Food Fortnight and will be offering a guided tour to let people see what happens on a farm and how their food is produced."

The tour takes place at 2pm and must be booked on 0191-373 5109. For details, visit www.durham food.org.uk
