SECURITY is to be increased at a shopping centre in Newton Aycliffe.
Sedgefield Borough Council's development control committee has passed plans for a closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) for Neville Parade Shopping Centre.
The camera will be adjacent to a footpath off Greville Way at its junction with Neville Parade and will survey the shops and the surrounding area.
Although the column will be close to a home in Henderson Road, councillors felt the increased level of security would offset any detrimental impact.
A spokesman said: "The development will benefit the locality without being a dominant feature in the street."
