FOOTBALL club officials say they are disappointed at the low turnout for a meeting about the club's new youth programme.

Angrove Northern League Brandon United has launched four youth teams, including under-18s, who will play in the Russell Foster Youth League from this season.

The club, which had raised fears about the lack of people joining the management committee, hoped that bringing more youngsters into the club would help the senior side by providing new talent and support in future years.

Officials called a public meeting on Friday to see if there was a demand and volunteers willing to set up more youth teams.

Club chairman Neil Scott said: "We wanted to let the community know that this is what we are doing and leafleted the community to let them know about the open meeting.

"Unfortunately it was a bit disappointing in that the people who had already said they would come along and run the teams turned up but there were no fresh faces.

"We just thought that there were age groups, particularly between the 11s and 18s, where there was a gap that we would like to fill.''

Mr Scott said the club would continue with its plans but said there appeared to be a lot of apathy about local football.

He said the response to the club's quest for extra sponsorship had also been disappointing.

"Some would be appreciated, large or small. We are not looking for fortunes, we are looking for things like match ball and fixture sponsorship," he said
