LORRY driver Gerald Kane overtook a queue of traffic in his VW Golf at 44mph above the speed limit - unaware that one of the cars was an unmarked police vehicle, a court heard yesterday.
On May 22, Kane, 39, sped along the A170 at Scawton Moor, between Thirsk and Helmsley, at 104 mph.
When he was pulled over, Kane, of Butterbur Way, Killinghall Moor, Harrogate, told officers: "It was a moment of stupidity."
Court chairman Pauline Ward fined him £400 with £45 costs and added six penalty points to the three already on his licence, for a speeding offence in 2002.
