THE funeral of a respected farmer killed in a holiday para-gliding accident took place earlier this week.
Colin Mitchelson, 49, who farmed at Newstead, near Satley, died in the accident in Turkey on June 21, when he and his pilot crashed into a mountainside.
According to friends, Mr Mitchelson and his wife Susan, had extended their ten-day holiday in Turkey to two weeks because they were enjoying it so much. He had been talking about making a para-glide throughout the holiday - and finally decided to do it on the last day.
Mr Mitchelson's daughter, Julie, is due to be married in five weeks time. He also leaves a son, Stephen.
Mr Mitchelson's funeral was held at Stanhope Methodist Chapel followed by a cremation at Mountsett Crematorium. An inquest was opened and adjourned on Monday.
