A NEW service is being offered to help employees of small and medium-sized businesses with computer skills.

E-Tees Valley is a partnership between the University of Durham's Stockton campus and Stockton Borough Council to promote the use of e-commerce and information technology in companies throughout the Tees Valley.

Based at the Old Town Hall, Thornaby, e-Tees Valley has been established to provide a full range of advice, training and consultancy services to enable companies to succeed in the global market and bring economic growth plus enhanced job opportunities to the sub-region.

Hugh Jackson, from the centre, said: "The courses are aimed at people who are in small to medium-sized businesses throughout the Tees Valley. They are very much tailor-made to suit the individual's needs.

"We do have a schedule of courses from now until September, but we are also open to suggestions."

Services offered to businesses include web page design, post-training support and a range of e-commerce seminars specifically designed for small or medium-sized businesses.

There are also free weekly drop-in surgeries on Mondays, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

Mr Jackson said: "Everyone is now involved with computers one way or another. It is such an important part of life, which is why we are here to help build people's confidences."
