ACTING on behalf of James and Alma Elder, who are retiring from the hospitality sector, the Newcastle Office of leading licensed property agents, Christie & Co, has sold Stanhope Old Hall, a fully restored 12th Century medieval hunting lodge in Weardale, County Durham.

The hall provides hotel accommodation, bar and banqueting facilities.

The purchasers are Joseph and Angela Wicki, for whom this is first time venture into the hospitality sector.

Angela is returning to her native England from Switzerland, where she has lived with her Swiss husband, Joseph, for around 20 years.

Stanhope Old Hall, which occupies 1.5 acre site in the village of Stanhope, is an imposing Grade II Listed property within a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.

The Medieval banqueting hall can accommodate 60 diners and there is also a separate 25-cover restaurant, two bars, 10 letting bedrooms (eight with en suite facilities), owner's apartment, large car park, gardens and paddock.

Adrian Mattock, who handled the sale from Christie & Co's Newcastle Office, commented: "Stanhope Old Hall is a unique property of immense character.

"The previous owners traded the business predominantly as a hotel with many established clients."

He added: "Although Mr and Mrs Wicki will continue this, they will further concentrate on fulfilling the potential of the property as a banqueting and restaurant venue focusing on the unique character of this historic property."
