BRITAIN'S longest snake will be slithering into Sunderland on Friday.

The 437-yard snake has been made by pupils from 12 Wearside schools.

The children received help from students at Sunderland University. The huge home-made beast will be used as part of a procession and fun day.

The snake will set off from Hylton Red House Primary School, preceded by a band. It will make its way along Hylton Road and into the grounds of Hylton Castle.

The schools involved are Hylton Red House, Maplewood, St Hilda's RC, St John Bosco, Townend Farm, Witherwack, Southwick, Bishop Harland, Bowhill, English Martyre, Grange Park and Hylton Castle primary schools and Castleview Comprehensive.
