A MIDWIFE plans to create a garden of remembrance for parents who have lost children.
Marie Richards, a midwife at Bishop Auckland Hospital, is appealing for donations so she can create a small garden in Sedgefield Cemetery for parents who have lost children before or after birth.
Mrs Richards has enlisted the help of her father, Les Parrish, the village gardener, in creating the quiet area, which she thinks will give parents a place to grieve.
She said: "I hope that we can make a start this summer and have it ready for the winter.
"I feel that it is essential that these parents should have some area like this. They could perhaps even scatter the ashes on the garden."
Send donations to Mrs Richards, c/o the Sedgefield Town Council Offices, Front Street, Sedgefield.
