TRANSCO is consolidating its regional operations at Doxford International Business Park, in Sunderland, creating 150 jobs over the next 18 months.

Akeler Developments, the business space developer, has let 1,257 sq m of offices to the gas pipeline operator, on a new ten-year-lease.

The company will transfer a further 80 of its staff to the site from two existing facilities in Stockton and Cramlington.

Ruth Thompson, asset general manager at Transco, said: "Doxford International offers the ideal complement to Transco, which sets the highest environmental standards in every aspect of its business."

Local MP Chris Mullin opened the building for Transco.

He said: "In the late 80s we lost an awful lot of jobs in Sunderland and thanks to Doxford a large number of people are working who otherwise might have been unemployed. It is an excellent example of the co-operation between the public and private sector."
