AN event to raise awareness of drugs is to be held in Hartlepool this weekend.

It will take place in Owton Manor Community Centre, in Wynyard Road, on Saturday, from 10am to 3pm, organised by the Hartlepool Community Safety Partnership in conjunction with the Manor Resident's Association.

A range of information and advice will be available for parents and other people, wanting to learn more about the issue.

The Partnership, whose members include representatives of Hartlepool Borough Council, police, businesses and the local community, hopes to follow up Saturday's event with others elsewhere in the town.

Alison Mawson, community safety strategy officer, said: "Confidential help will be available, but if anyone wants to make their own arrangements to discuss problems then we will be able to point them in the right direction.

"I don't think the problem of drugs in Hartlepool is any worse than in many other towns, but we cannot afford to be complacent and need to raise awareness, particularly among parents."
