A TOUGH ride through the Himalayan foothills at least has a spectacular end in sight for Keith Davison, the Taj Mahal.
The 37-year-old is joining a 300km ride in northern India, even though he has not ridden a bike for 15 years.
Keith, a Royal Mail distribution manager, from Northallerton, will take part in the eight-day ride organised by Mencap in November, but first has to raise £2,500.
He said: "The last time I was on a bike was about 15 years ago, but I thought I wanted to get fit and this gives me something to focus on, to get fit and raise cash.
"It is mainly going to be off-road so it is going to be difficult, but I am looking forward to it."
Keith's wife Loraine works at the Dales School, Morton-on-Swale, for children with learning difficulties. The couple also look after youngsters with learning problems at home.
Keith is a volunteer with Northallerton-based charity Breathing Space, taking children for activities at weekends.
Government funding for Breathing Space runs out next year, when the charity will have to become self-sufficient.
It will benefit from money Keith raises above the £2,500 for Mencap. A quiz night at the Tickle Toby, in Northallerton, has already raised £200.
