NOLBERTO SOLANO has pledged himself to Newcastle United and finally killed talk of a £6m move to European champions Real Madrid.

The Peruvian winger, faced with a heavy World Cup qualifying schedule, is desperate to figure as often as he can for United.

And he has underlined his commitment to the Magpies by revealing plans to make a frantic trans-Atlantic dash in a bid to line up against Premiership champions Manchester United a week on Sunday.

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson expected to be without Solano for the opening three games of the season at Old Trafford and at home to Derby and Tottenham.

But Solano aims to jet back to Tyneside after Peru's qualifier against Venezuela in Lima a week tonight before returning for the clash with Argentina on September 3.

Solano said yesterday: "I'll play for Peru against Venezuela and I'll be back next Friday before we play Manchester United. It's a very big game and one I desperately want to play in. But it depends on the manager and what he thinks is best.''

With Kieron Dyer struggling to make the big kick-off because of a shin problem, Robson will welcome Solano's determination to face Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Solano stressed: "I'm happy about still being a Newcastle player and I want to win things here.

"It's disappointing not to be in Europe this year and we have to be determined to qualify for next season.''

Meanwhile, Newcastle's Dutch goalkeeper John Karelse is hoping to clinch a move to Turkey with Samsunspor.

Karelse, who arrived from NAC Breda almost a year ago in a £750,000 deal, is on trial with the Turkish side and discussing personal terms.

Midfielder Garry Brady is also hoping to quit Tyneside and seal a move to First Division Barnsley, where he is on trial.

Everton were yesterday understood to be attempting to persuade Newcastle to lower their apparent £7m asking price for striker Duncan Ferguson, who has also been the subject of an approach from another of his former clubs, Rangers.

But it seems unlikely Newcastle will part with Ferguson while skipper Alan Shearer is still battling to shake off a knee complaint.

lPORTUGUESE defender Cristovao Helder, who impressed Newcastle while on loan last season, has vowed to stay and fight for his place with Deportivo La Coruna. But Bobby Robson will monitor his situation as he bids to bring him back to St. James' Park permanently.
