A DELEGATION from India is in the North-East today on a mission to find out more about coastal management.
The delegation of 25 Indian Government executives and university officials will be meeting technical officers from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and other agencies involved in the management of the Tees estuary.
UK Government agencies see the estuary as a good example of "best practice".
The visit has been arranged by the University of Newcastle, which has been appointed by the British Council to implement the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) Training Project for the Indian Government.
Redcar and Cleveland Council is also talking to the visitors about planning, leisure and engineering.
Brian Nicholson, principal planning officer with the council, said: "This approach has been acknowledged by Government agencies as a good example of best practice.
"I am sure the local expertise will be of value in developing a model approach that can be used by the Indian Government to apply in its own circumstances.
