Youngsters at Burnopfield Primary School had plenty of fun injected into their school sports day at the end of the last term.

About 180 students took part in the event, well supported by dozens of parents.

Headteacher John Rymaszewski said : "These days there is a big drive towards competition.

"We use this event as an opportunity to get everybody taking part in sport in a fun way.

"That way, the children can enjoy taking part in something they are keen on.

"The various activities were organised for the pupils by the teachers, based on their knowledge of the children."

Mr Rymaszewski added: "Our school has very strong sporting links.

"Some of the children belong to clubs and take part in county events.

"So some are very strong, which is another reason why we don't have special races, because certain children will win every time.

"The activities are devised by members of staff to get a bit of a laugh - and coming last is not something to be ashamed of."
