Yarm & District Riding Club had two teams qualify to represent Area 2 at the British Riding Clubs Horse Trials Championships at Offchurch Bury in Warwickshire on 12 and 13 August 2000.

As part of the millennium year celebrations this event was upgraded to a two-day event consisting of roads and tracks and steeplechase phases.

Yarm was the only club to send two teams to represent their area in a field of 41 clubs from the length and breadth of Britain.

Both teams competed in the novice section and at the end of the first day after dressage and show jumping were placed 13th and 36th respectively.

By the end of the cross country section on the second day, Yarm A team were pipped at the post and placed second with 0.4 of a second between first and second place.

Yarm A team members were Colin Saint on Clint, Yvonne Brookes on Lucky for Some, Emma Cox on Selectrix and Chris Rogers on Kester. Yarm B team members were Liz Banks on Master Sweep, Helen Foulds on Byron, Michelle Clough on Vestalka and Emma Cox on Bold Flash, who was drafted in last minute as a replacement for an injured horse.

Yarm B finished a very respectable 131st overall

Emma Cox had a storming weekend being placed first as an individual in Arena 4 for the A team followed by a fifth placing in Arena 3 for the B team and then as an individual rider competing in the Special Intermediate Section on her Chestnut gelding Goulton Oska.

Emma was placed second in this section against a highly competitive field with a tough cross country section and a very testing show jumping course.

The Yarm club is hoping to improve on its success when its qualifying teams represent Area 2 once again at Malvern in September for the Riding Clubs National Dressage and Show Jumping Championships.
