You could feel the tension from the off, as Sunderland struggled to gain midfield possession and we had to work very hard to overcome Derby's frustrating tactics. Two quality goals ensured that the best team won. Kilbane showed what a deadly striker he can be as well as a class winger, and it was business as usual for Super Kev. This win will help restore much-needed confidence.

After another nervy start Kilbane's extremely well-taken goal was just what was needed. The second-half performance was better and Hutchison began to run the show and had his best game of the season. The return of Sorensen who made some important saves was also good to see and we defended much better as a unit. This win was extremely important not only for the points but also for confidence.

What a relief. A vastly improved second-half performance earned three vital points. Let's be clear. The lads are still not firing on all cylinders and certain sections of the crowd will need to be more patient while the new players settle in and others try to recapture their best form. Fine performance to note, particularly from Jody Craddock and Don Hutchison.
