A MOTORIST was taken to hospital following a collision with another car yesterday.

Following the smash in front of the Fina garage in Frederick Street, Meadowfield, near Durham, firefighters cut one of the drivers from his vehicle.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to Dryburn Hospital, but his injuries were not thought to be life threatening. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured in the collision.

A spokesman for County Durham and Darlington Fire Brigade said: "We were initially told a car had hit a petrol pump at the garage because there was petrol all over the road. But two cars had actually collided, causing one of the vehicles' petrol tank to rupture."
