THREE years of intensive effort by a local charity came to a successful conclusion at the weekend with the official opening of their new premises.

Tory leader and Richmond MP William Hague, accompanied by his wife Ffion, did the honours as Northdale Horticulture celebrated its move to Yafforth Road, Northallerton.

The charity provides vital work and training opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, but a move became necessary when the lease on their old premises ran out.

It was Mr Hague who launched the charity's appeal three years ago and it was a resounding success, raising £300,000.

Mr Hague has supported the appeal throughout and on Saturday he toured the new site, unveiled a plaque and planted a tree brought from the charity's old premises.

The new premises consist of brick-clad buildings, offices and shop, a common room, storage areas, training rooms, a potting area and a workshop.

They are all shaped around a central courtyard.
