A POLICE team responsible for a huge area of moors and seaside resorts has moved into a new home.

A converted pair of semi-detached police houses have become the base of the North Yorkshire force's eastern area management team.

The team had been working out of offices in Malton police station until planning approval was given for a new headquarters to be created at the back of the station.

The old police houses had stood empty for several years, but were in a good state and easily converted into offices.

Chief Superintendent Paul Gregory said: "We are all very pleased to have much-improved working environment, which I am sure will have a beneficial impact on the job we are doing for the people of the area.

"The premises have been converted at minimal cost - the major part being the installation of IT cables and telephone lines - and represents excellent value for money.
