Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP Ashok Kumar staged a fast for Oxfam's Give it Up event, to help street children in Tanzania.
Participants raised funds by giving up something they take for granted, such as food or shelter.
Mr Kumar said: "In a wealthy society like ours, giving up food for one day may not be a hardship, but it can focus attention on people for whom lack of food is a fact of life."
