HIGH FORCE Research is doubling capacity at its County Durham base, creating ten new jobs.

Working closely with Keith Robinson & Co, the firm based at Bowburn, has secured a substantial financial package made up of own resources and commercial loans, supplemented by a Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Regional Selective Assistance grant.

The company, which specialises in research and development and small scale chemical synthesis, is doubling the size of its premises, and increasing its workforce, by building an additional 5,000 sq ft of laboratory and office space.

Work is already underway on the new purpose-built factory, which is due for completion in February 2001.

High Force Research was started in July 1988, and was originally based at the Mountjoy Research Centre in Durham City.

It provides research and development services to the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and fine chemical industries in the UK and overseas.

In 1996 the firm relocated to purpose-built laboratories in Bowburn

The latest expansion is expected to lead to creation of around ten jobs over the next three years, taking the workforce to 25.

Bob Redfern, managing director of High Force Research said: "This is a major development for the firm and the help and advice from Keith Robinson and Co has been invaluable.

"This expansion will enable us to further develop and upgrade our facilities to meet the requirements of our customers."

Terry Truran, partner at Keith Robinson and Co, added: "We have been working with High Force Research since it was started 12 years ago and it is very pleasing to see the company expand and develop over the years.

"I believe the company has a very promising future and expansion will provide additional space for this fast growing business."
