THOUSANDS of people turned up last night to see a local film star set Stockton High Street alight.
Film sensation Jamie Bell, from Billingham - star of Billy Elliot, switched on the town's Christmas lights.
A highlight of the event was when Father Christmas abseiled on stage from a crane.
Jamie said: "I am very pleased to be here to switch the lights on. I am not used to seeing all these people."
Proceedings closed with a fireworks display
