A FOOTBALL team made up of primary schoolchildren has been set up to represent the whole of Darlington.
The Darlington Primary Schools Football Team is believed to be the first of its kind in about 25 years.
Sponsored by Darlington Borough Council and the Masterskills Sporting Academy, more than 60 youngsters from schools around the borough attended trials and 16 have been selected to form the squad, which will have its first match tomorrow.
The team will play in tournaments organised by Durham Primary Schools Football Association and home games, including tomorrow's tie, will be at Haughton Comprehensive School, kicking off at 10.30am.
The squad consists of: Liam Allen (Cockerton), Alex Brydon (Abbey), Nicholas Cawood (Ravensthorpe), Ben Claxton (North Road), Christopher Cook (Springfield), Michael Curnow (Whinfield), Elvin Daniels (St John's), Daniel Fox (St Augustine's), Robbie Gardner (Middleton St George), Alex Grant (Cockerton), Adam Hassan (Heathfield), Jack Henderson (Abbey), Jamie Hind (Springfield), Philip Hobson (Whinfield), Jack Ridley (St Bede's), Luke Stone (St John's).
Further home matches are organised for more Saturdays on January 13, February 3, March 17, April 1 and April 28
