A CONSERVATIVE MP was in the region yesterday, to listen to the concerns of public transport users over a controversial experiment.

Bernard Jenkin, MP, the Conservative front bench spokesman on transport, arrived in Middlesbrough to speak to those affected by a traffic ban in the town centre.

He met local councillors before visiting the bus station in Newport Road, where the majority of services have been withdrawn.

Since the six-month experiment, which involves the pedestrianisation of Newport and Corporation Roads, began in October, it has provoked widespread controversy.

Among the complaints being voiced by passengers is that the relocation of bus stops is causing inconvenience.
