TERRY VENABLES' arrival at the Riverside leaves more questions than answers.

The former England coach has taken charge of crisis-hit Middlesbrough until the end of the season, with a brief to protect their threatened Premiership status.

But what happens when he returns to the world of television to prepare for his role next season as king pundit on ITV's new 'match of the day'?

Where do Boro go from there?

And what is the future for Bryan Robson, who is now manager in name only?

With his stock at rock-bottom with most fans, is it really feasible that the under-fire Robson could return to the hot-seat next summer?

As one wag said yesterday, Terry Venables' name is near enough an anagram for Robson's position - very untenable.

Seriously, though, whether Robson remains manager or not, he could still have much to offer Boro.

A directorship, one allowing key input on football affairs, would be a just reward for his huge contribution to the club in the past six-and-a-half years.

But he would only feel comfortable in such a position if the next manager was someone who could command his respect.

And Robson has stressed that Venables is the only other coach he is prepared to work with.

That's why fan-turned-chairman Steve Gibson is almost certainly still facing the prospect of finding the man to make his dreams of glory a reality.
