New County North Durham Youth League.

Two sides progressed in the Durham County Sunday Under-16 Cup when Cleveland Hall and Felling recorded victories against league opponents.

Cleveland Hall saw off the challenge of Hebburn Clegwell by a 6-1 margin as Anthony Norman rifled a hat trick, Craig Naylor bagged a brace of goals and Daniel Armoury also found the net. Stephen George was the scorer Hebburn's consolation goal.

There was a ding-dong battle when Felling Magpies entertained Chester-le-Street and won by 6-5. Paul McDonald, Daniel Graham and Stephen Brown all scored twice for Felling.

All games in the Under-16 division A were postponed and one match went ahead at Division B with Blackfyne defeating Grange Villa 5-2.

Nicky Tinkler scored a hat-trick and Dan Robson and James Sheldon also struck for Blackfyne. Simon Peel hit both the Grange Villa goals.

In the Under-17 Division there was only one game played and Chester-le-Street romped to a 7-2 victory at Lanchester whose two goals were recorded by Richard Hodge. Daniel Thompson (3), Darren Henderson (2), Andrew Robinson and Craig Patterson were all on the mark for Cestrians.

Bishop Auckland St Mary's

For the second week in succession the weather restricted the team to only one game. At home to second placed Hartburn Juniors in the Teesside Junior Alliance, St Mary's Under-10s lost 1-0 in a closely contested match when a draw would have been a fair result.

Blackfyne

the weather claimed the majority of the club's games although the Under-12s were in action in the A and C Kelly Gateshead League Cup, beaten 2-1 against Redheugh.

It turned out to be quite a game between the two teams occupying first and second positions in the league.

Redheugh snatched the winner in the dying minutes of a game that Blackfyne, for once this season, were caught sleeping and gifted both goals to the Gateshead team.

The scorer for Blackfyne was Dani Nichol, and man of the match went to Stephen Clasper. It should be a good match when the teams meet on league duty just after Christmas.

Chester-le-Street Town

The Under-17s won at Lanchester to complete a hat-trick of victories over the North-West Durham side in the last month.

The Cestrians, 7-2 winners in the New County North Durham Youth League had an excellent opening 40 minutes with fine flowing football which made up for last week's shaky start in the County FA Youth Cup.

Daniel Thomson (3), Darren Henderson (2), Craig Patterson and Andrew Robinson were the Chester-le-Street scorers. Darren Henderson, David Hope and Mark Harrison had excellent games, but it was skipper Dean Grayson who got the nod from Lanchester for the Cestrians man of the match award.

The Under-16s surprisingly crashed out of the County FA Youth Cup with a 6-5 reverse at high flying Gateshead side Felling Magpies. Alan Coulson's team were unusually out of sorts and were never comfortable, finding themselves 3-1 down at the interval. Chester rallied after the break but were always chasing the game. At 6-5 down with a couple of minutes to go, the Cestrians netted twice - but both efforts were ruled out. Craig Ellison (3), Andy Dawson and Rob Bulch were the Chester scorers and Ellison was Chester's man of the match.

On Sunday, the Under-16s are away to Brandon United (2pm) and the Under-17s are at home to South Tyneside (2pm, Moor Park).

Crook Town Horizon Glass

A well-organised Crook defence held the positive start of their hosts, Newton Hall St. Bede's in the Russell Forster League. Sterling work by Michael Richardson, Adam Reed and David Bulmer staved off to promising attacks of the home side. However, after 17 minutes the visitors defence was breached when Lee Smith slotted a through ball for Ross Lowery to flick on to Craig O'Brien, who netted from ten yards.

Seven minutes later a long ball from Jonathan Bailes found Mark Dyson and he ran on to give the visiting keeper, Stuart Walker no chance. Crook went very close when Jonathan Foster combined well with Chris Lowes to set up Wayne Clark, who hit a powerful shot but home keeper, David McGuire excelled himself with a save right on the line.

Early in the second half Wayne Clark left the field for treatment and St. Bede's made the most of the action against ten men when Stephen Hay's corner was converted by Jamie Simpson. Clark returned but after 47 minutes Julian Borrerofied in from 15 yards and Craig O'Brien completed the home scoring on the hour. Five minutes later Crook got the goal their efforts deserved when Wayne Clark managed to hold off two defenders and shoot past David McGuire.

The Man of the Match award for St. Bede's went to Lee Smith with Stuart Walker taking the award for Crook. The next match for the Horizon Glass team is on Sunday, 14 January when they entertain Waldridge Park at 11am on the Greenhead pitch.

Fairs Software Tyneside Junior League

The only league match played was between Cleveland Hall and Consett and the pair now have the same number of points after Hall won 3-2.

Scott Dodds bagged a brace and Robert Dixon was also on target for Cleveland Hall while Chris McGinn and Martin McKinney kept the steelmen in with a chance until the final whistle.

Consett are above the Hall in the table by virtue of a better goal difference and they also have four matches in hand on their rivals.

New Hartley lead the table and together with West Denton and Redheugh are still unbeaten. New Hartley have won nine of their 11 games and with 55 goals have scored more than any other team. Redheugh, in third place, have the meanest defence having conceded five goals in ten outings while second top West Denton have leaked just seven goals in their ten matches.

Wideopen have resigned from the league

Dunston Federation managed to play their Durham County Youth Cup tie against Crook but unfortunately from the league's point of view made their exit when the visitors ran out 2-1 winners. Alex Meadows was Dunston's marksman.

Northallerton Juniors

The Under-13s were held to a 1-1 draw against Thirsk Falcons in the Edward Curran Cup semi final which went to extra time.

Falcons took an early lead but in the second half North's persistence paid off, with a late equaliser from Paul Humphreys. Man of the match was awarded to Duncan Robinson for some excellent, goalkeeping always keeping North in with a chance of a draw.

The replay is at Northallerton Juniors on Sunday
