THE committee of a social club which won a competition in The Northern Echo earlier this year has donated its winnings to a community association.
Hurworth Grange Social Club, at Hurworth, near Darlington, took first prize in The Northern Echo's Pub and Club Challenge. The win earned the club £2,500, and a further £5,000 for Hurworth Grange Community Association.
The challenge involved licensees and their regulars collecting tokens printed in The Northern Echo.
The association had seen its annual grant cut by £8,000, so the club has donated money to help it through a difficult financial period.
A further £500 from the club's operating surplus has taken the total given to the association to £8,000.
The club would like to thank everyone who helped.
