POLICE are warning elderly Richmond residents to be on their guard after two men managed to con their way into a pensioner's home.

The culprits asked to use the toilet but, once they were in, one appeared to try to confuse the 80-year-old homeowner by asking for change for a bank note while the other disappeared from view.

The victim later reported the incident to a carer who called the police - but checks so far suggest the men left empty-handed.

However, other vulnerable residents are warned never to let strangers into their homes - no matter how plausible their reasons may seem - unless they can produce valid identification.
