AN international children's charity is looking for caring people in Hartlepool to help make a difference to the lives of young people.

Spurgeon's Child Care is working with Hartlepool Borough Council to provide an independent visitors' scheme for children who are looked after by the local authority.

The children who are involved in the scheme have little or no contact with their parents or family, and have had to cope with much disruption in their lives.

The charity wants to recruit volunteers to befriend a child or a young person on a one-to-one basis, sharing their interests and hobbies.

Janice Pearson of Spurgeon's Child Care said: "We are looking for men and women of all ages, backgrounds and ethnic groups who are interested in helping children and young people.

"Training and support will be given, and agreed expenses are reimbursed."

Anyone over 18 who can spare a few hours each week or fortnight is asked to call (01642) 456282 or (01642) 461482
