Darlington 21st Allstars

Frost-bound pitches resulted in only four teams in action at 11-a-side level and two teams at seven-a-side.

In the Richmondshire League, it was the Under-nine Colts who flew the Allstars' flag with two fine 2-0 wins at home to Northallerton. Thomas McCabe and Connor Richings grabbed a couple of goals each and Richard Miller and McCabe won the man of the match awards.

The Under-nines were also at home to Northallerton and after a hard-fought 1-1 draw, they really got their act together and won the second game 8-2. The nine goals came from Josh Phillips(3), Darren Swankie (3), Dean Bland, Jamie Kilday and Jack Binks. The man of the match winners were Phillips and Swankie.

At 11-a-side level, the Under-15 Colts lost their first league game of the season, ending the only Allstars' unbeaten record. It was a disappointing affair at Whitby Town Juniors, Allstars eventually losing 5-1. The Colts trailed 4-0 at half-time. A brief second-half rally brought a goal from Steve McCready but the Colts were soon on the back foot again. An outstanding defensive display gave Carl Hall the man of the match accolade.

The Under-16s also let themselves down, their quest at Catterick AWS for the top-of-the table position backfiring badly, and a surprise 4-2 defeat was the result of a totally lacklustre performance. The Allstars were one down after two minutes and it was always an uphill struggle and spurned chances did little to help the cause. James Hogg and Lee McDade got the goals and Andrew Mackintosh was man of the match.

The Under-14s travelled to Newton Aycliffe Youth with a makeshift side, five of the usual first team being absent for various reasons. Perhaps inevitably Allstars gave one of their poorer performances, losing 5-2. Ben CharIton and Jonathan Pearson got the goals and Gary Curtis' sound performance gave him man of the match. In a friendly at Wheatley Hill on a difficult surface, the Under-12s got in much-needed match practice. The eventual score was 4-4 with Dale Sheridan getting two goals, including a penalty, and Jonathan Vinton and Kyle Swankie one each. The debut-making, Kyle Beattie in goal and David Baines in defence, had tremendous games, Beattie sharing the man of the match award with Michael Lunn.

New County North Durham Youth League

Goals by Thomas Lunday and Gary Bearer eased Stocksfield to a 2-0 victory against Hebburn Clegwell but Chopwell found the going much easier visiting Grange Villa. The home side managed just one goal from Craig Rice as Chopwell ran out 4-1 victors with goals by David Bolton (2), Chris Scott and an own goal. In the only other league game played Wardley and Usworth drew 0-0 while in the quarter finals of the Durham Minor Cup there were wins for Sandhole and Cleveland Hall.

Ronnie Ellis with a brace and Colin Snailham netted in Sandhole's 3-2 defeat of Newton Aycliffe.

Cleveland Hall easily defeated Sunderland Plains Farm 5-1 with strikes from Anthony Norman (2), Scott Garthwaite, Kevin Poppleton and Mattie Forster.

Consett progressed in the Durham County U-18 Cup with a 2-1 victory at home to Seaham Parkside.

Consett just edged the result with goals by Gary Taylor and Darren Robertson.
