A MAN was jailed after he filmed a girl having sex with his friend before raping her.

The woman was at the home of Sukjinder Singh, 30, when she went upstairs with Gurdeep Rai, 19, and had sex with him. But Newcastle Crown Court heard, she soon realised she was being filmed by Singh, who then raped her.

Prosecutor Beatrice Bolton told the court how Rai encouraged the woman to have sex with his friend, despite her objections.

In a separate attack weeks later the same girl was lured to Singh's home on the pretext of a party, where he indecently assaulted her.

Singh, of Moorlands, Flint, Hill, Dipton, County Durham, denied any sexual contact with her. The court heard how these events, in September 1999, came to light after Singh was charged with the rape of a 15-year-old girl on March 4 last year, again at his home.

In the second attack Singh raped the youngster after a trip to the MetroCentre in Gates-head while her friend sat downstairs with Rai.

Rai, of The Oval, West Cornforth, County Durham, was jailed for 12-months after he was found guilty of confronting the girl in a bid to make her drop the charges against Singh.

Singh denied rape, unlawful sexual intercourse, false imprisonment and indecent assault. He was found guilty by a jury of two charges of rape, one of indecent assault and one of indecency. He was cleared of false imprisonment.

Singh was jailed for seven-years by Judge Guy Whitburn
