A WOMAN was given a £100 reward by a judge yesterday for helping to catch a burglar at a neighbour's home.

She telephoned the police when she saw the thief breaking a kitchen window in the house in Billingham, Teesside.

When police arrived, Stephen Wood, 28, leapt from a ground floor window and ran off, said Clare Donaldson, prosecuting.

But five minutes later, while police were still at the house in Hastings Way, Billingham, he reappeared.

Wood of Quenby Road, Billingham, was jailed for two years after he admitted burglary and theft of razor blades from Asda's South Bank store.

Judge Peter Fox praised the vigilant neighbour, saying: "It was a very neighbourly thing to do. That sort of thing should be acknowledged.
