A CAMPAIGN to build a swimming pool in Guisborough has received the backing of town councillors.
Local people are pressing for either a refurbishment of the existing pool or for a new one to be built, claiming facilities are run down.
Councillor David Punshon of Gusiborough Town Council, which is backing the campaign, said the revitalisation of the pool was necessary because Guisborough was growing rapidly.
"Also, Guisborough Swimming Club is very successful and that puts pressure on the public, who can only swim at certain times," said Coun Punshon.
On Friday, Ashok Kumar, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, will collect a 5,000-signature petition.
