THE North-East's all-dancing answer to TV phenomenon Popstars is being launched by Tyne Tees Television.

A six-part series, Red Hot Dance, is looking for five dancers from the region to perform in one of the world's hottest dance spots in Ibiza.

Producers are hoping that the millions who were hooked on the search for Popstars band Hear'say will be equally fascinated by the series documenting auditions, rehearsals and finally the performance by the new dance troupe.

Dancers will be chosen through auditions at nightclubs throughout the North-East. They can perform for the judges on their own, with a partner or in a group.

Ten winners from each venue will go through to the semi-finals.

Five winners will be selected to be coached by a professional choreographer before jetting off to perform at El Divino in Ibiza Town.

Presenter Sam Ross said: "The aim is a serious one - to show that North-East dancers can be the hottest, most talented, most sensuous movers in the world and deserve to take centre stage at any of the world's hottest dance venues."

"It's going to be a lot of fun but there'll be a lot of nail-biting tension as well."
