A WOMAN woke up after a night out with her boyfriend to find another man having sex with her in her home, a court heard yesterday.

The woman, who cannot be named, woke in the early hours of October 11, 1999 to find she was being raped by Terence Clark, 41, it was claimed at Newcastle Crown Court.

Robert Woodcock, prosecuting, told the court Clark had gone to the woman's house, despite barely knowing her, after being escorted from his girlfriend's house by the police following a row.

Mr Woodcock said: "She woke to discover there was a man lying on top of her.

"It was dark and it took her a while to come to her senses and to realise that she did not recognise the male until it became clear to her that it was Terence Clark.

"She tried to push him away but he just kept saying 'shush'."

The court heard how the woman ran screaming from the house in her nightclothes and reported the attack to police.

Clark was arrested and told them he had been to the house because he was told there was a party going on there.

He admitted having sex with the woman, but said she had consented to it.

Clark, of Hendon Valley Court, Hendon, Sunderland, denies rape.

The trial continues.
