A 20-year-old woman is in Sunderland Royal Hospital with serious leg and arm injuries after the car in which she was a passenger plunged down an embankment.
The accident occured at the junction of the A19 and the A1231 in the city yesterday.
The driver and three other passengers suffered minor injuries.
