A County councillor has urged the Government to postpone the local council elections.
Weardale councillor John Shuttleworth wants the May 3 vote postponed and has written to all farms in his Durham County and Wear Valley wards, offering support.
He said yesterday: "The county council look set to go ahead with local elections, and the Government is obviously still considering holding a General Election, on May 3.
"I have made strong representations to try and postpone both of these."
