WORK is under way to create a new look for the Town Moor on Hartlepool's Headland, and help return it to its former glory.
As part of wider plans to rejuvenate the Headland and North Hartlepool, £200,000 is being channelled into improvements.
Victorian-style railings are being erected on the side of the Moor facing the sea, complementing those put in place a few years ago in Marine Drive. Improvements are also being made to footpaths.
The project is being funded by the North Hartlepool partnership, which is using money from the Government's Single Regeneration Budget to revitalise the Headland and parts of North Hartlepool.
The work is expected to be completed in June, and is being carried out by Hartlepool Borough Council.
Paul Catterall, the council's principal landscape architect, said: "These improvements will help return the Moor to its more traditional appearance, in keeping with the proud heritage of the area.
