Thirsk racecourse has lost its opening meeting on the Flat, which was scheduled to take place today and tomorrow, because it falls within an area designated by MAFF as a foot-and-mouth infected area.
But Thirsk is hoping to stage a busy programme in May which includes racing on three successive Saturdays (May 5, 12 and 19). The middle fixture will be the first-ever Saturday evening meeting at the course
