A TEENAGER yesterday admitted the manslaughter of a father-of-one who died after an incident outside a Middlesbrough nightclub.

Christopher Howard, 18, admitted the unlawful killing of Anthony Walker, outside Toxin's on February 9.

Howard, of Evesham Road, Middlesbrough, admitted the manslaughter charge at Teesside Crown Court yesterday.

Mr Walker suffered serious head injuries after he was struck by Howard and fell and hit his head on a pavement. The 32-year-old died in hospital.

The court heard that Howard had been on medication since the incident and had to give up his job.

Tim Roberts, for Howard, said: "He has been unable to cope with the tragedy he visited upon this other family."

Sentence was deferred for preparation of pre-sentence and character reports.

Judge Peter Fox QC told Howard to expect his sentence in the week beginning Monday, June 4.

Howard had previously been released on bail on February 13 after his uncle put up the £50,000 bail bond.

Mr Walker, a steel erector with a 14-year-old son, lost his fight for life 24 hours after the incident outside the club in Linthorpe Road.

He suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Middlesbrough General Hospital after the incident.

Mr Walker's death came just weeks after he saved his girlfriend from a masked prowler.

The 32-year-old, from Stirling Way, Thornaby, was returning home from a night out with his girlfriend when they spotted a balaclava-clad man hiding in their garden.

Mr Walker attempted to detain him, but, following a violent struggle in which the intruder was unmasked, he escaped.

Police later revealed that the prowler fitted the description of a sex attacker who had assaulted several women in Thornaby last year.

Neither the prowler nor the sex attacker has been caught by the police.
