TEAMWORK paid off for four young swimmers who will take part in a national competition next month.
The quartet from year six at St Wilfrid's RC Primary School, Bishop Auckland, won two relay races in the regional finals of the Bazooka championships, held at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre.
Mark Gabriele, Luca Rea-Dobson, Joseph Reed, Simon Callan, and Luca's ten-year-old brother, Joseph, who acts as substitute, live in Bishop Auckland and are members of the successful Wear Valley Swimming Club.
They won both freestyle and medley relays, to earn a place in the national finals at Pond Forge, Sheffield, on June 16.
The school's PE coordinator, Suzanne Graham, said: "They do most of their training with the club, which has a good reputation. They are a very talented team."
