MINING artefacts and memorabilia will go on display over the bank holiday weekend.

Durham Mining Museum will hold an exhibition at Seaton Holme, in Easington Village, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the disaster at Easington Colliery, which claimed 38 lives.

The Durham Mining Museum is supported by people from across County Durham and the rest of Britain.

It aims to preserve the memory of the area's coalfields and has a semi-permanent display at Easington Miners' Welfare Hall.

It also organises one-off displays of photographs, factsheets and memorabilia in communities around the North-East.

The exhibition will take place from Saturday to Monday, May 26 to 28, from 11am to 4pm
